For several years Fr. John was dean of the 14 parishes in the SE Deanery in San Antionio. I was the SE Deanery Pastoral Coordinator. It was a pleasure to work with Fr. John. He was very helpful and supportive. We became friends. He would also call me to help with confessions at St. Jerome. He always had a party for the prists after confessons and we all enjoyed his company and the company of one another. I am sure he is with the Lord resting now. I was so happy I got to talk to him a few days before he died. God bless his family and all who loved him.

I had never thought I would be the subject of a mass. Gaining weight has been a problem for me. Around 2007, I started another round of dieting and my husband paid for a membership at Gold's Gym for he and I. I saw Father working out at various parts of the gym, and we would nod at each other. One day he was at the first bike, so I stopped to talk with him. I explained how my weight was causing problems with my health and my husband was very concerned and was trying to be as encouraging as he could. I'm sure I listed off a number of ailments, he gave me some encouraging words, then I went off to my workout. At our family time for mass on Sunday, we were enjoying the service when Father came up for the homily. Oh my goodness, Father had his normal joke, then went in to talking about getting loved ones to take care of themselves health wise and the family giving as much help and support they can and not take no for an answer. A lot of points he said were from our conversation! It made an impression and I thought about that homily a lot as I lost those 40 lbs.

To the family and his Parishioner family, Laurie and I offer our sincere and heart felt condolences and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
