Obituary for Gene M. Deagen

Gene Morris Deagen of Floresville, age 89, died Sunday, December 30, 2018. Gene started working in the oil field as a young man and continued actively working in that field through age 88! He was a very devoted and hard worker, always going the extra mile. Gene was always respectful to others and taught his daughters to do the same. He was a great husband and father, always wanting to make life fun for his family. He was an amazing barbecue guy, often asked by others to barbecue for special events. At the end of a long hard day, he loved to just sit in his chair on his front porch, have a beer, and look at his cattle. He leaves behind his dear devoted wife, Cora Dott Deagen; and his three daughters and sons-in-law – Wanda & David Hildebrand, Cindi & Jimmy Bruce, and Kim & Brent Loessin; his two grandchildren – Peyton Bluhm, currently in her 2nd year at medical school at Texas Tech University; and Christopher Bluhm, a current senior in civil engineering at Texas A&M University. Other survivors include his two sisters and brothers-in-law – Phoebe Lenz; Reba & Bob Johnson, and R.C. Dott. The family also wishes to acknowledge his wonderful caregivers – Michelle, Santa, and Gigi. These ladies did more than just take care of him; they genuinely loved him. We also want to thank the staff and nurses of Vitas Hospice for their kindness and very compassionate care. Thank you to all those who were involved in his care over the past few years. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019, 9:30am-11:00am at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.
