Obituary for George E. King

George Edward King was born on July 30. 1937 in Wilson County, Texas to parents Richard Leslie King and Flossie Mae King. He died in Bexar County, Texas on September 1, 2018.

George was preceded in death by both of his parents, his loving wife, Patsy Ruth Hastings King to whom he was married 43 years, brothers Joseph Archer King, David Paul King, D.A. King, Robert King, and a sister Genevieve Worthington.

He is survived by his son Charles King and his wife Laura of Galveston, Texas, and Joseph King and his wife Cheryl of Friendswood, Texas. He is also survived by his brothers Richard Lee King, Jimmy King, Sammy King, Stevie King, Ernest King, Billy King, and his sisters Cora Jean Mints, Elsie Wright, and Ida Rogers. George also had 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

George served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962 where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall. Following his military service, he and Patsy moved to Houston, Texas where they resided for 25 years. George worked as pipefitter in the Houston area and was a member of Pipefitters Local Union 211. He retired in 1988 and returned to live on his ranch in Nixon, Texas, where he resided until his death. He was a member of the American Legion Post #547 (Mahan-Patteson) for many years and served as treasurer for the post and operator of the weekly bingo game.

George King was a faithful member of the Dewville United Methodist Church. He loved attending worship and enjoyed fellowship with his church family. He was consistently present, and a strong supporter of, the local high school football games coached by his nephew, Andrew King. He was an ardent baseball fan, often making trips with his sons to visit various professional baseball fields and watch games. George also loved hunting and fishing.

George was loved and respected by many. He is described as a man of few words, but one who was persistent, wise, loving, kind, gentle, and humble. He had sparkling blue eyes, a smirky smile, rough hands, and a great sense of humor. When his family thinks of George, these are a few of the things that come to mind: his love for Pat, grunts, ear wiggles, elbow pinches, dedication, strength, baling wire, snap front western shirts, 501 button fly jeans, Johnny Cash, warm heart, passionate, shoulder shrugs, hay, cows, and dominoes!

Though his family feels a tremendous sense of loss at the death of George, they are comforted in the knowledge that he has been reunited with the love of his life, Patsy, and that through his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, he is now residing with her in his Heavenly home.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 6, 2018, from 5 – 8pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale. Funeral service will be at 10am, Friday, September 7, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Stockdale. Interment will follow at Stockdale Cemetery.
