Obituary for Herman Loyd Luddeke

Herman Loyd Luddeke has shed his wings here on earth and earned his heavenly wings to join our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in Heaven. Herman was born February 12, 1936 to Fred and Hertha (Hengst) Luddeke in San Antonio, Texas. Growing up in San Antonio, Herman learned carpentry working with his father and brothers during the weekends. Herman met the love of his life, Bernice Koenig at the Trail Drive-In Movie Theater in San Antonio. They were married on June 20, 1953 and resided in San Antonio. In 1973, they moved to La Vernia and built their dream home. Herman was employed with the Tom Burkholder Company for 20 years as a typewriter and adding machine repairman. When electronic technology began, Herman left behind the typewriter business and began custom hay baling. In 1986, Herman went to work for the Guadalupe County Road and Bridge Department and retired in 2001. He enjoyed 9 and 10 pin bowling and was a lifetime member of Bexar Bowling Society. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending the day sitting outside with his faithful dog Terry. Herman is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hertha Luddeke; his wife of 28 years, Bernice (Koenig) Luddeke; brothers, Melvin, Roland and Fred Jr Luddeke; sisters Anita Wilson and Hertha Jane Waller. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Bowles (Ted); son, Richard Luddeke; daughter, Elaine Steffen (Aubrey); son, Russell Luddeke (Lana); grandchildren, Chesney McQueen (Eric), Leanne Roseland (Eric), Amanda Meeks (Preston), Matthew Luddeke (fiancé Melissa Wheeler), and Kelsey Brunner (Ross); great-grandchildren, Landry and Rhyder McQueen, Drew and Conley Roseland, Sage and Teagan Meeks, and Walter Brunner; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Arenas, Dr. Lester and the staff at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center for the excellent care of Herman. They would also like to thank Guadalupe Regional Hospice for their excellent care during his final days, as well as Jeanette Burg for being our father’s angel on earth.
