William (Bill) Tai Apisa, age 74, of Smiley, passed away May 24, 2017 in Gonzales. He was born February 6, 1943 in Pago Pago American Samoa. He received his Bachelor of Education from the University of Hawaii and his Masters of Education and Educational Specialists from Wayne State University. He served Clintondale Community Schools in Clinton Township, Michigan for 33 years both teaching and coaching. He was also an Instructor at Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii for 7 years. Bill attended the Smiley Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners Aloha Temple, and Michigan High School Coaches Association. He was also a member of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. The Clintondale Community School dedicated and named the football field “The Bill Apisa Field at the Don Seiferlein Stadium”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tai Apisa and Laina McMoore Apisa, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sheila W. (Smith) Apisa; of Smiley, TX and Clinton Township, MI; his son, William Tai Apisa, Jr. of Smiley, TX; four grandsons: Tai Apisa III of Smiley, TX, Koa Apisa, Tui Apisa, and Manu Apisa all of Wilmington, NC; his brothers: Dennis Apisa of Green Bay, WI; Bob Apisa of Granada Hills, CA, Norman Apisa of Aiea, HI; a sister, Esther Apisa Shimasaki of Honolulu, HI; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other loving family and many friends.
