Obituary for Edward Pruski

Edward Pruski
Edward Thomas Pruski, 76, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 surrounded by those he loved most.

He was born on September 5, 1939 in Kosciusko, Texas. He began his schooling in Kosciusko and completed high school in Poth. He was an active member of his class as an athlete, lettering in football and track, and as FFA president. He graduated in 1959.

He married Annie Wiatrek on October 27, 1962 and settled in San Antonio, living the next 53 years in the Highland Hills area, 52 of those years in the same house. Edward and Annie filled their home with love, laughter and children: Deanne, Roger, Tracey, and Leslie.

Edward worked for Decker Foods for 29 years, first as a truck driver for over 20 years and later in machine maintenance. He enjoyed meeting people along his delivery routes. He knew the roads of Texas better than most. His Corpus Christi/Rio Grande Valley run was one of his favorites because it gave him an occasional chance to do a little coast fishing on the evenings he had to stay over.

When the Decker plant closed in 1992, he went to work for the San Antonio River Authority. Edward enjoyed this job even though it was hard work, hot in summer and cold during the winters, because he was able to work outside. He retired in 2001 after a lengthy illness.

Edward enjoyed doing things with his hands. He was the person to call when something need fixing, no matter what it was. He also loved farming and ranching. He loved gardening, and he planted gardens in lots of different places.

When he wasn’t working he fished and hunted, though usually fishing. His favorite fishing partner was Annie. They spent many weekends fishing at Mathis Lake, enjoying each other and the company of family and friends.
Edward was also a very devout Catholic. He attended mass as often as possible. While he was able, he was an active Knight of Columbus and Men’s Club member at Holy Name.

Grandchildren were the ultimate blessing for Edward. He loved and was proud of each of his eight grandchildren, Suzanne, Jessica, Thomas Edward, Kendall, Matthew, Thomas Charles, McKenzie, and Hayden. Spending time with his grandchildren brightened his days. He could often be coaxed into a game of Uno or dominoes with them.

He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Magdalene (Pawlik) Pruski, and brothers, Eldren and Vernon Pruski; in-laws Benedict and Susie (Lyssy) Wiatrek and Alene (Sami) Pruski. He is survived by his beautiful, loving wife Annie; his children Deanne Swierc (Tommy Joe), Roger Pruski (Nancy John), Tracey Kotara (Frank), and Leslie Pruski; his grandchildren Suzanne and Thomas Swierc, Jessica and Matthew Pruski and Thomas Krawietz, and Kendall, McKenzie and Hayden Kotara; brothers Jerry (Marilyn), Lloyd (Bernadette), Frank (Kim), and Glen (Wendy); sisters Mary Walker (Rob) and JoAnn Otero (Salo); sisters-in-law Lorraine Pruski, Jane Hosek (Daniel), Lorene Wiatrek (Virgil), and Bernice Pruski (Adrian); brothers-in-law, Wilfred Wiatrek (Micki), Benedict Wiatrek Jr. (Jane), Harvey Wiatrek (Maggie), and Allan Wiatrek (Vernell); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 6:00pm on August 19, 2016, followed by a rosary service at 7:00pm, at Holy Name Catholic Church in San Antonio (3814 Nash Blvd). Father Martin Parayno will celebrate a Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 20, 2016, 10:00am, at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Edward leaves a legacy of faith, love, charity, and self-sacrifice. He was a humbling example of how to live. He worked hard for his God, family, and friends. He never turned his back on someone in need and was always ready to try something new or begin again.

The family wishes to thank Edward's caregivers, Kim Campos and Janet Riojas.
