Obituary for Elizabeth "Tinnie" Onken (Leick)

Elizabeth “Tennie” Onken, 94, of Edinburg, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014. She was born July 9, 1919, in Yorktown to the late Edward F. and Christena Kubala Leick.

Elizabeth married Lester Onken on January 11, 1941, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. C. G. Handcammer. In 1955 they moved off the farm to Galveston and later to Pasadena where they resided until retirement at which time they moved back home to Yorktown. After an illness they moved to McAllen and resided there until their deaths.

She is survived by her daughters, LaNett Marie Clapsaddle and husband Darrell and Myra Kay McLaughlin and husband Bob; grandchildren, Trey Mathis, Michael Day, Christine Day and Logan McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Tyler Mathis, Tori Mathis and Dylan Hernandez-Day.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Graveside service at 2 pm, Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating.
